‘Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.’ (JFK)
This week l have been reminded of this quote by John F Kennedy but with a focus on community rather than country. Community is the first of our school values and our pupils this week have been focusing on what it means to do something for our community and have been asked to consider why our actions outside of school are as important as those inside of school.
On Thursday afternoon our year 7’s hosted an afternoon tea for ‘someone special’. By some miracle we managed to serve tea and cake to well over 200 people in the hall! This was a great opportunity for our pupils do something for someone who has done a lot for them. Some of the reasons given for the nominations were because, ‘…they have helped me through my transition to high school’, ‘…they help me with everything and are nice to everyone’, to my favourite nomination which read, ‘…because she is always there to support me and she deserves to have a nice cup of tea and a cake’. A big thank you to all of those staff and pupils who organised and supported the event and to local businesses who provided cake and refreshments. We hope that this marks the start of a Hastings tradition.
Wednesday night was our year 7 disco. This year we were treated to an array of costumes from the scary to the bizarre!
Thank you to all of those staff who helped to organise this event and supervised on the night.
All in all a busy week for our staff and pupils but a great example of what can be achieved when we all work together. I hope that you all get to enjoy lots of tea and cake over the weekend!
