Introduction to the school
Hastings High School was an 11-14 high school until 2015 when it began a move to 11-16. Its first year 11 took their GCSEs in 2017. This age range change was undertaken at the request of parents and in partnership with other local secondary schools.
The move increased the school size by over 300 pupils and over 30 staff. The site also changed significantly with the addition of 11 new classrooms and a remodelling of many others. All aspects of the schools provision were reviewed and enhanced as a result of the change. When recruiting new staff, previous GCSE experience was prioritised and experienced staff were bought in at all levels including pastoral staff, heads of department and senior leadership to ensure the school had the skills relevant for the challenges of GCSEs.
The school’s ethos is summarised by the phrase “Care and Excellence for All”. We provide high academic standards within a very caring and supportive school community and a curriculum which provides “Something for Everyone”.
